Building Stronger Communities

We need well-designed, affordable homes convenient to our business districts. Kathy will work to ensure that housing is not beyond the reach of our young families, public employees and seniors.

HouseKathy on affordable housing:

Workforce housing applies to those with low to moderate incomes, including our teachers, police and other government employees, as well our young families, disabled and even seniors. Some example programs that I believe warrant more attention are:
  • Live Near Your Work and First Time Home Buying programs. Both of these programs can be run as self-funding in that the assistance is paid back into the fund, which helps the next program participants.
  • Providing tax incentives for home additions to house family members.
  • Mixed use structures that include housing as a component of commercial redevelopment, such as has been suggested during the Towson UDAT along York Road. The ground level would be retail, with housing on the upper level(s).
Additionally, there are many smart growth programs that have been successful throughout the state and country to be investigated and discussed as options for our county.

I share the concerns of many residents of the 5th District, which is why workforce housing is a key component of my campaign.
